Look, there’s a lot of sites that tell you what questions to ask a DJ, and they ALL come from DJs. Well, this one does too, but since I’m retired it doesn’t count!
- Will my DJ not dress like a moron?
Just because he’s coming in a suit doesn’t mean he won’t look foolish. I’ve seen DJs comes in powder-blue tuxes, wrinkled suits, or even wear ties with playboy bunnies on them! - Will my DJ play bongos on his assistant’s chest?
Yes! This is a valid question! Example. - Will my DJ have a clean set up?
Do you have SEVERAL pictures of various set ups?
A good DJ needs PROOF of his clean rig at LIVE events, not a generic photo! - Is my DJ an eloquent, witty MC and a dynamic mixing DJ?
Do you have various video recordings showing what you do at live events?
Same as above. Why take their word for it when you can SEE for yourself? - Can I see you at an event live?
If he says yes, HANG UP NOW! OMG, if he’s bringing you to an event, how many uninvited guests will he bring to YOUR special day? Guess his focus is not on you? - Are you cheap??
Are you seriously asking this? Did you NOT see the questions I posted above? - Was your contract written by an actual attouney or your mommy?
Yes, many DJs also think they’re their own lawyers. 9/10 the contract wouldn’t hold up in court if he decided to bail out on you! If the DJ was able to afford an attorney, then most likely he takes his business seriously and thus takes YOU seriously. - Are you full-time?
NO DJ works harder than one who relies on YOUR happiness for his income. What’s wrong with part-time? It’s about the same as asking a janitor who moonlights as a chef to cater your wedding. If he IS part-time, please do LOTS of research and make sure he has video and photo samples. - No photos or videos of you? What are you hiding?
Every cell phone nowadays has a camera and you can buy a camcorder for $75. There’s NO reason they can’t showcase their work; unless they SUCK.
One last tip: FORGET ASKING FOR REFERENCES!!! No one will say “here’s my good reviews and here’s the ones that told me to pound sand!” WeddingWire.com is a unbiased review site. Brides can review vendors and they CANNOT delete ANY reviews!!! Better yet, other vendors do reviews as well. A client works with a DJ once or twice, but vendors work with them again and again and again!
Ask the DJ for his WeddingWire page or search him on the site. Many vendors are on there without even signing up just because someone reviewed them. If there’s very few reviews, or a low number, ask them why.
my problem is im one of those crappy djs. i need to get better.
i am a superstar dj I know I cant do better @ 55.00 an hour
this website wont post my comments that I only get paid @ 55.00 per hour
they are being bias…….
so why wont you post my comments!
Well, I did! I have been busy traveling.
I only work at a rate of $55.00 per hour
thats why the owner is me and he is bias!
I am confused.
Love your site! Great examples to help the “good” DJs rest there case..
In case Mom is reading this, I meant “their” of course!
